INTERN | One-Week Design Internship

Required Experience and Skills:

This program is for rising Juniors enrolled in a University, studying in a related field to the areas of Interior Design.

 

Role Summary:

One-week interns will be invited to participate in a week-long internship and report for work at the CBI Charlotte location starting on Monday, June 3, 2024. Hotel arrangements and exact schedules will be distributed prior to the students' arrival, and they should plan to check in to their hotel by the evening of Sunday, June 2, 2024.

Interns are expected to be at CBI Charlotte on Monday no later than 8:00 a.m. and will end their internship at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024.

CBI will provide selected one-week interns with meals and lodging for the duration of the week. All interns must provide their own transportation to and from CBI or events.

During their internship, selected students will participate in a weeklong, in-depth training session where they will learn basic knowledge of the contract furniture industry. The training session will consist of the following classes listed on the next page.

 

Intern Learning Objectives:

  • CBI Experience: Learn about our guiding principles that allow team members to truly focus on creating a memorable experience for our clients'.
  • MillerKnoll & Falkbuilt Overview: Learn about MillerKnoll's commitment to innovation and modern design and Falkbuilt's unique architectural solutions we offer our clients.
  • Introduction to Project Management: Interns will shadow PM's to understand our approach to space planning support and specifications of products required to complete a project.
  • Introduction to Workplace Strategy: Interns will get an overview of key concepts that demonstrate the consultative selling mindset that all CBI Sales Consultants use on a day-to-day basis.
  • Warehouse & Installation Services: This session focuses on how our Installation and Warehousing teams work and the processes that allow them to provide our clients with the best service possible while on a job.
  • Introduction to CAP / CAD / REVIT: This session will teach the basic AutoCAD, CAP and REVIT commands and techniques. This will allow the drawing and specification process to be more efficient and provide clients with the best service possible.
  • Portfolio Review: We will spend time reviewing your resume and portfolio. This review will provide professional advice to help you prepare for the workforce.
  • Career Placement Assistance Program: This program helps discover what opportunities are available at CBI after graduation.

Intern Experiences:

  • CBI Project Tours: All interns will attend guided project tours of CBI clients local to the Charlotte market. Students will be able to see the finished product that results from the CBI process.
  • CBI Construction Site Tours: All interns will attend a guided active construction site of CBI clients local to the Charlotte market. Students will be able to see the process work and instal­lation process.
  • CBI Manufacturer Tours: Students will spend time in the MillerKnoll showroom and with some of our part­ner representatives learning about how they support CBI and how we partner together to serve our clients.
  • A&D Night: Students will spend time touring Architecture & Design firms understanding more of their processes and the partnership with CBI.
  • CBI Night: All interns will attend a CBI Night event where all Charlotte Associates will be avail­able to field questions from the students about their roles at CBI and the workplace solutions industry.
