Edible Academy Environmental Education Intern - Community Impact Summer Internship 2024

ATTENTION PACE STUDENTS:  This paid Summer 2024 opportunity is provided by Pace University through its Community Impact Funded Internship Program to support our students and the communities we serve. It’s open to all enrolled Pace students, including undergraduate, graduate, and international students.

Under this program, full-time internships are provided by host organizations selected by Pace University Career Services staff. The compensation is $19.00 per hour. The maximum amount of money a student can make under this program in 2024 is $6,000.00.

Students must be enrolled at Pace University during the entire length of their internship, and NOT graduating before December 2024. If a student leaves Pace or graduates before the estimated end of their internship, the internship will end immediately.

The position might require you to report to a work site, work remotely, or work a hybrid schedule.

  • Complete program requirements for one of the following: ASPIREINSPIRE, or BUS 255 course. 
  • Be a currently enrolled Pace student (undergraduate, graduate, and international students), graduating Dec 2024 or later.

Once the application deadline closes, the host organization will review all applications submitted and select those candidates they wish to interview virtually. After the interviews are completed, the host organization will make their selections. Career Services will then inform selected students of their internship offer(s).

Title of Internship: Edible Academy Environmental Education Intern

Brief description: Support a variety of garden-based education programming at the NYBG’s Edible Academy, our LEED certified garden dedicated to teaching about the ecosystems that provide the foundation for the foods that nourish our bodies and minds.  Programming includes in-person school field trips for pre K through 5th; drop in gardening activities for families; our Children’s Gardening Program; Summer Camps exploring culinary arts and sustainability; and the Bronx Community Farm Hub, propagating seedlings for distribution to community gardens and harvesting produce for donation to neighborhood food providers. Work closely with our program coordinators and educators to support our program facilitation and with our garden coordinators to learn and practice sustainable gardening strategies in the stewardship of our garden campus.

Responsibilities: Assist with the set-up, facilitation, and clean-up of our various programs to gain an understanding of the process of preparing a safe facility and engaging programs.  Assist with garden projects to gain an understanding of sustainable gardening practices that promote a healthy edible garden that has positive impacts on our local ecosystem.

 

Who would be perfect for this job (qualifications): Outgoing, friendly, passionate about science, the environment, our food systems, and interested in developing one’s teaching practice to communicate these ideas with children and families. Bilingual a plus. Must be comfortable working outside in all types of weather across the 250-acre NYBG campus.

 

Preferred start and end dates: June 4 – August 3 

Preferred hours per week: June and July, Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30am-4:30pm
