Spanish Teacher - Middle School ​

About Us

Our school is a free and public charter school that currently serves more than 200 students in Paterson, NJ. Our current elementary school is growing from serving grades K-1 & 5 in our inaugural year to an elementary school serving grades K-2 next year and a middle school serving grades 5-6. Once fully grown, we will be serving approximately 675 students serving grades K - 8. 

Inspired and founded by Brilla Public Charter Schools in the Bronx, our school combines a Classical approach to education – an emphasis on an ennobling and content-rich curriculum, inductive inquiry-driven instruction, and virtue formation that fosters an encounter with Truth, Beauty, and Goodness – with whole group & small group instruction as well as individualized instructional support for our students. We approach the formation of our students holistically and maintain high academic expectations. Position Overview

The primary responsibility of a Spanish teacher is to cultivate a classroom community of learners in which the imagination is awakened to limitless possibility, the mind is inspired to seek truth, and the heart is stirred by love to embrace goodness. As the model learner, the classroom teacher embodies the virtues of heart and mind that we aspire to nurture in children. The classroom is the seedbed where curiosity and love of learning bear the fruit of shared success. By maintaining a learning environment where every child feels loved and is encouraged to to strive for and meet the school’s ambitious targets, students experience personal triumph that is wed to academic accomplishment.  

Core Competencies & Responsibilities

  • Content Area Expertise: Direct the linguistic growth and development of students in a way that is qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrable in alignment with Brilla’s ambitious growth standards.
  • Holistic Development of Scholars: Foster an inviting, growth-oriented classroom environment for Academic and Character formation, supporting holistic student growth
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Implement a classically-inspired, inquiry-based, rigorous curriculum aligned with national and state standards, inspiring curiosity, depth of insight, and lifelong learning readiness. Implement innovative teaching strategies that resonate with diverse learners
  • Promotion of Critical Thinking: Cultivate higher-order thinking skills in students, enhancing their abilities to analyze, create, synthesize, and evaluate
  • Data-Driven Instruction: Utilize assessment data to strengthen student achievement through targeted interventions and personalized instruction
  • Relationship Building for Success: Develop strong student and family connections, fostering a passion for learning and exceptional academic success
  • Collaborative Engagement & Continuous Improvement: Foster productive relationships with colleagues, parents, and the community while engaging in ongoing collaborative professional development, reflecting on student achievement, and efficiently managing time for impactful teaching and learning
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications & Certifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (required)
  • New Jersey State teaching certification in Elementary or Middle School (required)
  • Teaching or student teaching experience in a school (required)
  • Special Education credential (highly desirable)
  • Spanish language proficiency (preferred) 
  • Experience with a demonstrated proficiency in leading students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds preferred

  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills

The base pay range for this position is $52,500 to $90,149 per year. Pay may vary within the stated range, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus for some roles may be provided as part of the compensation package subject to executive leadership approval, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
