About the Position:
Under the general direction of the Chief, TASAS Branch (Traffic Accident Surveillance and Analysis System), a Senior Transportation Engineer, the Transportation Engineer (TE) performs a wide variety of complex transportation engineering work in the TASAS Program to maintain safety data and data integrity in the Transportation System Network (TSN), which is the safety database of the Department. Working independently, the TE must have fundamental engineering knowledge and highway design experience to create/modify engineering project design plans and to read and understand construction as-built plans to calculate postmile and encode various types of highway data relating to geometrics and characteristics of the State Highway System (SHS) into the TSN Highway database to support the Caltrans Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). In addition, the TE may act as a lead engineer in responding to inventory and collision data requests for Road Diet, Non-Active Transportation and safety projects from the Directorate.
