Job Summary
The Materials Research Group at Luna Labs is seeking a Product Development Team Lead committed to advancing the development and commercialization of innovative materials-based products for the civilian and military markets. This role will play an integral role in New Product Development by collaborating with R&D and Business Development teams to understand customer needs and achieve technical milestones to satisfy those needs. The Product Development Team Lead will need experience with polymer science/engineering and process- and product-development skills to transfer emerging R&D prototypes to successful commercial exits.
Duties and Major Responsibilities
- Lead transition of new technologies into product concepts, prototypes, pilot scale production and manufacturing
- Generate and present product concepts and test results to internal and external end-users and customers
- Work collaboratively with R&D and Business Development teams to establish timelines and ensure technical and commercialization milestones are met
- Provide hands-on laboratory support to develop proof-of-concept models and/or prototypes
- Lead multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers to develop innovative technologies for our customers
- Define, build, and maintain relationships with key collaboration and commercialization partners
Minimum Qualifications
- BS or MS in Engineering or Materials Science
- 5+ years' experience leading prototype development projects
- Demonstrated transition of technologies out of the lab into products
- Technical Expertise in one or more of the following technology areas:
- Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, or Elastomers
- Nanomaterials
- Polymer Composites
- Experience leading and mentoring a team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Due to government contracting regulations, U.S. Citizenship is a firm requirement
