Master of Science (MS) in Biological Sciences Program

Important Dates:

The online application will be constantly available. Students who apply before June 1st will be eligible for fall admission and students who apply before November 1st will be eligible for spring admission.

Start date: week of August 10th

End Date: week of January 10th

Eligibility:

1. Students must have conferred their Bachelors degree before the start of the program.
2. Unfortunately, due to limitations on remote classes, this program is open only to domestic students or those who otherwise possess a valid work authorization (students cannot participate in this program on an F-1 visa)
3. Students must meet Dominican University of California’s admission criteria:
   
   1. Students must complete Dominican’s application, although this can be completed before or after applying to SRF Apply now!
   2. Official Transcript(s)– Dominican requires official transcripts (although unofficial is acceptable for the SRF application) Find complete instructions on how to submit your transcripts to Dominican here.
   3. GPA of 3.0 – A grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is required for the last 60 units of graded undergraduate or graduate course work.

   5. Statement of Purpose or Intent
      A statement between 300 and 800 words describing why you are interested in pursuing a graduate degree.
   6. Two Letters of Recommendation
      Academic or professional, on letterhead.
   7. Prerequisite Requirements
      – Biology. Two semesters.
      – Calculus. Two semesters
      – Physics. Two semesters
      – Organic Chemistry. Two semesters
      – Biochemistry. One semester
      – Statistics. One semester
   8. Personal Interview
      Applicants who have been selected to continue on in the application process will be invited to interview
   9. Optional — GRE Record
      An official copy of general Graduate Record Examination scores may be submitted (GRE code 4284).

Qualifications:

1. Applicants should have some biologically-related prior research-intensive experience.
2. There are no specific major requirements. Students of any major may apply, provided they can demonstrate experience relevant to the project in question.
3. Expected participation is full-time and in-person. Class attendance, thesis preparation, or other academic activities are expected to be completed outside of working hours, but working hours can have some flexibility to accommodate academic obligations. For example: students would be expected to work 40hours/week, but can clock out at 2pm for class, and make up class hours at another time.

Compensation

An hourly rate will be provided to cover room and board costs. Pay rates will be based upon levels used by government agencies, such as the NIH and NSF. Fellows will be eligible for benefits after the first 3 months of employment.

Housing

Participants in the program will need to locate their own housing. Advice can be provided by SRF and the host lab. A stipend will be provided to cover room and board costs.
