Data & Programs Student Assistant

The Office of Research is seeking a Data & Programs Student Assistant to support student research initiatives and programs. You will work in a flexible, dynamic, and supportive environment on a variety of projects and tasks, all aimed at supporting our undergraduate research (UR) community. You’ll support our team in:
- Assisting in the development and execution of UR programs and processes
- Building and maintaining application portals for competitions (research and travel grants), fellowships (graduate, undergraduate, summer), and awards (researchers of the year, transcript designations)
- Tracking and managing our database of student involvement and outcomes
- Processing and analyzing data to compile reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Supporting USU student participation in state and national competitions and events
The Data & Projects assistant will work alongside our Communications & Outreach and Events & Programming assistants, with clearly defined arenas of independent work and ownership of projects, as well as collaborative and shared responsibilities.
Reports to: Graduate & Undergraduate Research Senior Program Coordinator

You are:
- Currently enrolled at USU
- A team player—you’ll work well alongside our team and the campus community
- Organized—you create plans, keep to schedule, and pay attention to details
- A good communicator—you can convey yourself clearly and professionally, in person and in writing
- Driven and resilient—you take the initiative and can work independently, but also know when to ask for help and are able to pick yourself back up after setbacks
- Tech-savvy—you know more than just the basics and are confident in your ability to pick up new systems and digital tools
- Analytical—you can spot trends in data, interpret potential causes and effects, and develop solutions to problems before they arise
- Adaptable—you’re okay with this role shifting as our team members all bring in different skills, interests, and professional goals
Preferred Qualifications
- Participation in UR
- Familiarity with UR programs at USU
- Familiarity with software systems such as Airtable, Qualtrics, Canvas, Zoom, Box, Microsoft Suite
- Data analysis and visualization skills
