Title: Research assistant
Hours and duration: 37.5 hours per week for at least 10 weeks in Summer 2024
General summary:
The research assistant will work a minimum of 10 weeks and supporting Anne Karing, The Neubauer Family Assistant Professor in Economics and the College, by completing research tasks associated with the Principal Investigator’s (PI) project on understanding the effect of informal vendors of medicines on consumers’ purchasing and health-seeking behavior in the formal market in Freetown, Sierra Leone. The research assistant will be responsible for cleaning and producing descriptive statistics from the data collected. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with extensive market data (both formal and informal) while addressing crucial welfare questions in a low-income country setting. The ideal candidate is someone interested in health economics, particularly health markets in low-income countries, and has strong data cleaning and analysis skills.
Principal Duties and responsibilities:
- Cleaning the incoming data.
- Supporting the analysis and presentation of the data results to the PIs.
- Coding and maintaining up-to-date versions of surveys on Survey CTO.
- Creating and running High Frequency Checks (HFCs) to monitor the quality of the data and give feedback to field supervisors.

Prompt, thorough, and independent carrying out of responsibilities.

Anne Karing, Assistant Professor (Economics Department)
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Basic statistical analysis;
- Familiarity with cleaning and structuring data using either STATA, R, or Python;
- Experience programming and monitoring surveys (experience with Survey CTO preferred).
