Internship – Art Direction/Themed Finishes

JOB SUMMARY: Intern will work closely with the Sr. Director of Themed Finishes and the extended team at Universal Creative to gain an in-depth understanding of themed finishes from the perspective of both the business side and the artistic/creative side. There will be opportunities for learning experiences in color design/color boards, theme painting, and hardscapes or decorative concrete design and implementation. This role will provide detailed knowledge of Universal’s paint documentation requirements, themed finishes specifications, related estimating and vendor management, scenic painting, construction site experience, digital art, and the administrative aspects of themed finishes operations. 


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates in site walks and reviews with creative teams and vendors. 
  • Assists with contract discussions of vendor scopes and related deliverables. 
  • Gains hands-on training and participates in activities such as checking substrate pH and moisture content levels of Themed Carved Plaster and Rockwork prior to painting, and performing adhesion checks for coatings. 
  • Visits Sample Yards and provides hands-on assistance with sample creation, tracking, and material procurement. 
  • Develops paint palettes, related artwork development, and color board layout and organization with the oversight of leadership. 
  • Provides administrative support with formatting and organizing documents and spreadsheets, as well as organizing physical samples and chip books that pertain to themed painting scopes of work. 
  • Assists with the coordination and organization of training programs. 
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 

  • In pursuit of an Associate, Bachelor or Graduate degree at an Accredited Institution with current class standing of Sophomore or above.
  • Recent graduates will not be eligible for this program.
  • Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA is required. 
  • An official transcript may be required upon request. 
  • Preferred majors include: Themed Entertainment, Concrete Construction, Construction, Theater, Scenic Design, Art Management, Business, Project Management, Fine Arts, Sculpture, Painting. 



ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

Preferable skills for success in role include but not limited to:

  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, Revit, and other design programs preferred. 
  • Preferred experience with scenic painting, concrete work, and other construction works. 
  • Comfortability working in both office and construction site locations required, includes exposure to extreme weather conditions and physical exertion in these conditions. 
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Superior written & verbal communication skills.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and adhere to deadlines.
  • Ability to work autonomously and/or in teams.
  • Consistent attendance.

  • Interns must be currently pursuing a degree at an accredited university, and must have a graduation date later than December 2024.

Internship – Show Set Design, Core

JOB SUMMARY: Show set design intern will assist the development of multiple themed experiences within the early project phases through concept. Candidate will support the Creative Studio team to generate ideas and develop design studies through the creation of concept models and coordination drawings. They will learn about the creative design and development process of attractions and themed experiences from early ideation through concept development, including exposure to the various team members, departments and partners involved.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in articulating creative intent during the early phases of development through renders, drawings, artwork, models, etc. that communicate the design intent of the various show elements of an attraction or experience (e.g. scenery/sets, architecture, ride engineering, special effects, etc.).
  • Attends team meetings and develops positive and productive relationships with multiple project partners, departments, disciples, and personnel.
  • Participates actively and supports larger team initiatives in work sessions and brainstorms.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Required software proficiency with AutoCAD and Adobe Suite.

Internship, Universal Creative - Show Programming

JOB SUMMARY: The intern will work on 3D modeling, rigging, and animating ride systems and mechanical show equipment under guidance and direction, utilizing 3D animation software.  Learning objectives include animating and evaluating motion with precise performance parameters, scripting for ease of workflow and exporting of animation data and collaborating with different disciplines throughout various phases of project development.  The intern will also learn about the creative design and development process of attractions from early ideation all the way through final show integration in the field.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes 3D models and CAD Drawings to rig ride systems and mechanical show equipment.
  • Cleans up and optimizes imported 3D models to maximize compatibility across disciplines.
  • Animates ride vehicles and show action equipment under creative and technical guidance.
  • Writes scripts to ensure motion profiles are within kinematic performance parameters.
  • Develops tools to output motion profiles in various formats for presentation and evaluation. Document processes and work completed.
  • Analyzes various parameters required in coordinating mechanical ride equipment with facility, ride and show.
  • Assists with iteration and development of future attractions currently in production utilizing 3D software.
  • Participates in brainstorming meetings for new ride concepts and ideas.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and Team Member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Preferred level of experience with Python, Maxscript, Unreal, Unity, TouchDesigner, or MEL.
  • Required skills in 3D Studio Max or Maya, with modeling/animation skills that represent attention to detail, real-world scale, and realistic motion.
  • Must be efficient in Microsoft Office Programs including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities and organization.
