Alligator Attendant - Part Time

DIVE into an exciting opportunity with the Indianapolis Zoo! We are currently on the hunt for a part-time Alligator Attendant. NOTE: This is NOT an animal care position.

Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Having a friendly attitude and professional appearance to customers, volunteers, and coworkers is vital to this position as well as being customer oriented. This position requires a great deal of interaction with the general public; individuals must display a strong communicative attitude and interpersonal skills. This is part-time variable hourly (20-25 hours consistently per week) position. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Weekend, holiday, overtime and/ or varied shift work is required. Compensation for this position is $15.00/ hr.
 

The position requires the following:

  • Greets guests and handles questions and concerns.
  • Monitors the guests around the Alligator exhibit. Ensures safety procedures are being followed at exhibit by guests.
  • Provides guest information about our Alligators.
  • Presents professional attitude and interpersonal skills.
  • Works closely with Deserts staff and will act immediately to issues of safety or security as it relates to animals, visitors, volunteers, and staff, to level of experience.
  • Maintains regular attendance. No excessive or unexcused absences or tardies as per the Zoo's attendance policy.
  • Must enjoy working as a team but be able to work independently as well.
  • Observes and reports maintenance needs to Assistant Curator of the area.
  • Part-time variable hourly positions may work 20-25 hours per week. Daily shifts may vary. Weekends and evenings required.
  • Exposure to work indoors and outdoors, under all environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.
  • Must be able to perform medium level work exerting at least 50 pounds of force occasionally, and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • Ability to detect, assess, identify, and observe surroundings to make sound judgments, along with the ability to communicate verbally, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio and telephone.
  • Ability to remain in the same position for long amounts of time, while maintaining body equilibrium.
