Aviation Civil Engineering Intern - Summer 2024

Our Internship Program is designed for college students pursuing a degree in a STEM field and provides opportunities to learn what it’s like to work in a professional environment and apply what’s learned in class to the real-world challenges we face every day.

 

How will you contribute to the team?

 

  • Utilize good computer skills with a working knowledge of standard office software, and the desire to learn new specialized software applications.
  • Under the direction of the engineer of record or design task leader, create, edit, and produce layout drawings, phasing plans, profiles, sections, and various other detail drawings for airport project bid solicitations and construction documents using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D applications.
  • Under the direction of the engineer of record, prepare design calculations using such tools as Microsoft Excel, FAA’s pavement design software FAARFIELD, and AutoCAD’s Civil 3D Hyrdroflow extensions.
  • Under the direction of the engineer of record or design task leader, using Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD, prepare and document estimates of construction quantities such as pavement layer material volumes, weights, or areas, earthwork volumes, miscellaneous structure counts, and linear asset lengths.
  • Under the direction of the engineer of record, prepare technical specifications from FAA and Department of Transportation guidelines for bid solicitation and construction projects using Microsoft Word.

 

What will you contribute?

 

  • EXPERIENCE: No experience is generally required with the candidate’s acceptance into and partial completion of an ABET accredited Bachelor's degree program in Civil Engineering or a related technical field.
  • EDUCATION: Candidate must have completed at least 60 hours towards a civil engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Summer 2024).
  • SPECIAL SKILLS: Candidate must have a basic engineering knowledge from recent coursework and the math skills to perform basic engineering calculations, with a willingness to learn new software tools and applications.  Experience with AutoCAD is preferred, but not required.
  • PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS: None.  Candidate must demonstrate progress toward engineering licensure with matriculation through their degree program, with a goal of preparing for and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination for Engineering Intern (EI) certification.
