Student Life Graduate Intern (Vision and Call)

Vision & Call Internship Program:

The Vision & Call Internship Program is designed for recent college graduates enrolled in a Bushnell graduate program who are interested in and/or exploring a call to work in Christian higher education. This internship is a part-time, 10-month (August 1, 2024-May 31, 2025), grant-funded position.

 As part of this program, you can expect to:

  • Participate in meaningful, hands-on projects within the department that contribute to the mission of Bushnell University.
  • Develop knowledge, skills, and abilities in the field of Christian higher education.
  • Receive an $850 per month stipend and a $5000 graduate tuition benefit at Bushnell University.
  • Be supervised and mentored by an experienced leader who has over 10 years of experience in higher education.
  • Engage with senior administration, including members of the President’s Cabinet.
  • Be part of a cohort of interns and meet together on a weekly basis.
  • Receive individualized career coaching and mentorship in the exploration and clarification of your own vocation and calling.
  • Produce a professional development plan and portfolio to launch your career in higher education.
  • Attend a retreat with other Vision & Call Interns from around the nation (October 4-6, 2024). Attendance at the retreat is a mandatory component of participating this internship program.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Residence Life and Student Services, the Student Life Graduate Assistant is responsible for creating and developing an effective living-learning environment through the different departments of Student Life.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide opportunities for students to grow personally, interpersonally, and spiritually through the Office of Student Life (Residence Life, Campus Ministry, Student Programs, and Wellness).
  • Create and distribute marketing materials for Student Life campus events and Title IX campaigns (such as sexual assault awareness, prevention, and reporting mechanisms).
  • Supervise and assist in student efforts in educational, cultural, social, and recreational programming, through all Student Life departments.
  • Create training experiences for the personal and professional growth of Student Life Leadership teams.
  • Assist with crisis intervention, stabilizing situations, and coordinating the notification of the appropriate university officials/referral agencies.
  • Assist in facilitation of All Hall Residential Meetings and Title IX Taskforce meetings.
  • Serve in the “Administrative On-Call” capacity and assist in coordinating RA duty coverage.
  • Carry out and promote university and community standards related to the Student Handbook.
  • Promptly report all maintenance needs; conduct routine inspections of the residential living areas and promptly report damages.
  • Assist with check-in/check-out procedures, including key distribution and collection.
  • Assist in the coordination of student conduct hearings and application of sanctions.
  • Create avenues for Bushnell students to experience a community of belonging on campus.

Experience and Qualification Requirements:

Recent college graduate or 1st year graduate student. Strong preference given to those enrolled in a Bushnell University graduate program.

  • Good standing with Bushnell University (e.g., academic, student conduct, financial)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal, in interpersonal and public speaking settings
  • Positive and enthusiastic, builds rapport with a wide range of constituents
  • Collaborative team player with ability to work independently
  • Creative, resourceful, and flexible
  • Quick learner; committed to efficiency and accuracy
  • Self-motivated, dependable and reliable
  • Demonstrates a high level of professionalism
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with digital technology, databases, etc.

Working Conditions/Special Requirements:

  • Bushnell employees must have a maturing Christian faith and live in compliance with the duties and expectations as detailed in the Employee Handbook.

  • The employee must have knowledge of strong office management techniques; operations, procedures, specific rules and precedents of the office; research methods and report writing techniques; record-keeping techniques; operation of office machines including computer equipment and specified software; principles of training and providing work direction.
  • The position requires a strong ability to communicate effectively and succinctly, both verbally and in writing, utilizing tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Listening skills and the ability to speak and write clearly are essential to this position. Must possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The employee must have high personal motivation, with great attention to detail and accuracy.
  • This person must project a positive, vibrant and professional attitude in assisting people.
  • This person must have high ethics of honesty and confidentiality, with a genuine and gracious presence pertaining to the students, faculty, staff and business of the department and the University.
  • This position may require lifting up to 25 lbs., as well as bending, stooping, kneeling.
  • This position may require evening and weekend hours on special occasions.
