1st Grade Teacher
ROLE SUMMARY
Empower urban children to excel academically, physically, spiritually, and socially.
Supervisor: SFCA Assistant Administrator
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Classroom Instruction
- Create and maintain a safe, welcoming, and positive classroom environment to encourage learning
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles
- Create student intervention plans when necessary for students with additional needs
- Complete all grading, and progress reports, and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner
- Record accurate and detailed documentation of student achievement and progress
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers
- Classroom Management
- Work with other teachers and administrators to address and resolve student issues
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student progress through formal and informal testing
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Biblical principles and student handbook
- Maintain regular communication with students and parents for academic/behavior progress
- School Operations
- Participate in weekly faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
- Participate in student recruiting sessions and other efforts requiring teacher representation
- Attend educational conferences and training workshops for professional development
- Abide by all state and federal mandates in reporting sexual or physical abuse and neglect
- Uphold the school's student management policies such as attendance, dress code, etc.
- Assist in student events such as Orientation, Back to School BBQ, Talent Show, etc
QUALIFICATIONS
- Maintain professional relations and show patience with parents, teachers, and other staff
- Refrain from criticism of teachers and fellow staff members
- Supervise the classroom if the teacher is unexpectedly pulled away for short periods of time
- Attend class field trips and help with transportation of students to and from the field trip site
- Follow established procedures and guidelines as found in the SFCI and SFCA handbooks
- First aid/CPR trained (training may occur post-hire)
- Fingerprint and background check
- 4-year bachelor's degree required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds. Frequently required to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
SCHEDULE
- Part-time, non-exempt
- Minimum 3 days per week, scheduled days of week will vary
- Wednesday night prayer/community groups
- Occasional night, weekend, and holiday hours
- All SFCI outreaches
