About us: 

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, and community green spaces across the country. 

Program Description: 

This position will provide direct and indirect assistance to park staff for cultural resource duties, and works within the parks Division of Resource Stewardship and Science.  Responsibilities will include all types of archaeological data collection and cultural resource management activities including surface survey, excavation/testing, use of metal detectors, historic and prehistoric artifact analysis and research, architectural documentation and use of GPS/GIS.

Duties require hiking and carrying gear over uneven terrain, repetitive motions and procedures, and working under variable conditions in both hot (70-90 degrees F) and cold weather (30-50 degrees F). The position will also assist with archaeological and NHPA/S 106 monitoring of construction projects and various park undertakings. Tasks may also include working with the museum curator to identify and catalog artifacts and archives.

Clear communication both verbally and in writing is important as the candidate will be asked to contribute to cultural resource reports and communicate with staff and visitors.
           
The position will be supervised by the Chief of Resources but will also work closely with other park divisions. On an individual project basis, the position may be supervised by a designated project/section lead, who will assign specific tasks and provide immediate assistance.
