Activity Specialist - Art Studio Monitor (West Side YMCA)

SALARY: $20.00 - $25.00 Hourly

The West Side YMCA is seeking an Activity Specialist - Art Studio Monitor, who under the direction of the Senior Program Director and the Visual Arts Coordinator, will be responsible for monitoring the Art Studio and usage within the facility. General duties include the enforcement of all YMCA policies and procedures as well as ensuring a positive environment for members and guests in all assigned areas. 

The major functions of the Art Studio Monitor include:

  • Demonstrate strong service and hospitality through the development of interpersonal relationships with all members, participants and staff of the YMCA.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with membership services.
  • Continually serve as a resource for member questions, concerns or needs.
  • Ensure the enforcement of established YMCA policies and procedures, guidelines, and the YMCA Code of Conduct.
  • Effectively monitor the studio usage schedule while encouraging community.
  • Ensure on-going cleanliness of facility and equipment.
  • Embody the YMCA core values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold all YMCA of Greater New York standards and guidelines.
  • Monitor the entrance of the Art Studio; ensure that access is granted to the correct individuals.
  • Maintain attendance rosters of participants.
  • Assist members and program participants in effectively utilizing materials and equipment.
  • Continuously monitor all areas of the Art Studio to ensure proper usage and adherence to policies and guidelines.
  • Complete incidents/accident reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of all spaces, materials, supplies and equipment utilized.
  • Maintain communication with supervision and maintenance staff to ensure thorough cleaning of the Art studio spaces.
  • Inform supervision of needed supplies (including cleaning supplies), when applicable.
  • Ensure participants exit the studio and/or facility after the program ends.
  • Maintain integrity of the Community Arts Department and the YMCA of Greater New York.  
  • All other duties as needed for the successful operation of the Art Studio and the programs offered by the YMCA of Greater New York.

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; College degree preferred.
  • Experience in the field of visual arts.
  • Knowledge of Ceramics is a must.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
  • Creativity and flexibility are a must.
  • First Aid/CPR preferred.
