Description
Volunteerism engages community members in the work we do at the City of Boulder. We hope that every volunteer has a meaningful experience and leaves that experience feeling more connected to their community. This internship will help advance our goal of having volunteers leave feeling a greater sense of belonging in the community. City staff who manage, coordinate, and lead volunteerism are a part of the City’s Volunteer Cooperative. These staff members work together to support high-quality volunteer engagement across departments. This intern will be immersed in the work of the Volunteer Cooperative. They will have the opportunity to observe volunteer programs in multiple city departments, work with staff to pilot new techniques in volunteer experiences, and provide recommendations for improving volunteer experiences across the city.
The Volunteer Cooperative intern will be housed in the Communications and Engagement Department. The intern will be part of bringing our mission to life: Creating connections for a thriving community and democracy. The Engagement Team’s work is centered on inclusion, belonging, equity of access, and amplifying underheard voices in our community. This temporary position with the City of Boulder is part of the CU PEII Internship Program – a 40 hour per week position spanning nine weeks. Research how other cities create inclusive volunteer experiences • Evaluate existing volunteer experiences across multiple city departments to support increased inclusion and belonging • Pilot new systems rooted in inclusion and belonging within existing volunteer experiences • Develop recommendations and guidelines for creating inclusive volunteer experiences • Collaborate with Interns in other departments • Mentor Neighborhood Engagement high-school intern • Attend weekly editorial and monthly department meetings. • Attend monthly Volunteer Cooperative meetings • Attend meetings for the One Day Project, Inclusiveness and Belonging, and Training subcommittees
QUALIFICATIONS:
• CU student • Commitment to full participation and attendance for duration of program. • Familiarity and comfort using Microsoft Office Products, including Office 365, Excel and Word. • Embody City of Boulder’s values: Respect, Innovation, Integrity, Customer Service and Collaboration • Courteous and professional • Exceptional attention to details • Good verbal, written and graphic communication skills. • Strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills. • Excellent problem-solving skills, initiative, and resourcefulness • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively • A strong commitment to contributing positively to a team • Interest in actively learning about the field
