Freire Charter Middle School is currently seeking a Science Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year! Freire Charter Middle School staff members are forward-thinking team players passionate about working with and unleashing the potential of urban youth. Preferred candidate qualifications:
- Appropriate PA Certification or willingness to pursue certification
- Positive attitude, sense of humor, and willingness to do whatever it takes to get a job done
- Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
- Evidence of creativity in lesson planning
- Previous successful experience working with urban youth

Just footsteps from Philadelphia's City Hall and a few blocks away from our flagship high school campus, Freire Schools' youngest Dragons are preparing for college and changing what it means to be in middle school.
Our students arrive at Freire Middle School (FCMS) at a range of achievement levels. Here, they don't just catch up they make leaps in personal and academic growth, setting them up for even greater success in high school. This past year, Freire Middle School received Great Philly Schools 2020 High Growth Rating for demonstrating impressive academic growth over a three-year period in math and reading. In 2018-19 (the last year for which there are test results due to COVID-19), Freire Middle School ranked #4 out of all public Philadelphia middle schools on the School District of Philadelphia's annual School Progress Report. That year, Freire Middle School received a Progress score of 100% for the third consecutive year.
FCMS educators teach every single day with urgency, zeal, and compassion because every minute matters. FCMS is committed to supporting the entire student - academically, behaviorally, and emotionally. Our behavioral expectations demand that students keep the focus on what matters most - learning - while supporting them in making healthy and safe decisions. Our instructional coaching program supports all teachers in growing as instructors, no matter how experienced they are. Our growth mindset is deeply rooted in all we do. Compensation
Freire Charter Middle School offers a very competitive salary and benefits package, a strong commitment to developing all staff as professionals invested in life-long learning, and the opportunity to work with the best students in Philadelphia. Our salary scales are generally in alignment with surrounding school districts.
Across the network, at least 95% of our Class of 2023 were accepted to college. Students were accepted to 151 unique colleges and universities – including the University of Pennsylvania, Cornell University, and 30 historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
The Class of 2023 received over $23.8 million in college scholarships and financial aid.
Freire students’ college persistence rates consistently exceed local, state, and national averages. In each graduating class, 89% to 92% of our college-attending graduates return to college for their sophomore year, compared to just 69% nationally.
Freire Charter School just was awarded a $2M grant and Freire Wilmington a $1.8M 5-year grant to continue their 21st CCLC programs for the next five years.
TECH Freire was one of only five schools, out of 39 total applications, approved to open a new Philadelphia charter school in 2016.
