Project Inspector 2

We are looking for experienced and detail-oriented Project Inspectors to join our team. As a Project Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting assigned projects to ensure compliance with specifications, plans, and/or proposals as indicated in project specifications. You will work closely with project managers and other team members to ensure all projects are completed to the highest standards.

You will be responsible for the inspection of projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for roadway work, roadway, drainage, pavement, waterworks, electrical, maintenance of traffic, traffic work zone, pavement markings, traffic control, signing, topsoil removal, demolition and clearing, foundations for embankment, sub-grades, guardrails and/or median barriers, landscaping slope protection, detours, and temporary roads.

Job Summary:

The Inspector will inspect assigned projects to ensure compliance with specifications, plans, and/or proposals as indicated in project specifications.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the inspection of projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for roadway work, roadway, drainage, pavement, waterworks, electrical, maintenance of traffic, traffic work zone, pavement markings, traffic control, signing, topsoil removal, demolition and clearing, foundations for embankment, sub-grades, guardrails and/or median barriers, landscaping slope protection, detours, temporary roads, etc.
  2. Verifies plan quantities and calculations following project plans.
  3. Prepares and maintains project records and reports and submits them on time.
  4. Performs other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned by the Project Engineer.
  5. Notifies contractor of non-conforming work.
  6. Performs data entry into ODOT’s current operating system or local documentation equivalent as directed by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.
  7. Will assist other project management staff with identifying problems and developing viable solutions for consideration.
  8. Responsible for the correct use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and for following appropriate health and safety practices.
  9. Responsible for maintaining confidentiality while working with confidential data, which, if disclosed, might have a significant internal or external effect.
  10. Complete special projects and other duties as may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

  1. A High School diploma or GED is required and
  2. Meet all requirements of Project Inspector I
  3. Highway testing certification including but not limited to:
    • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade 1
    • ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level 1

OR

  1. Ohio Aggregate Level 1
  2. Demonstrate the successful completion of the following:
    • ODOT Flexible Pavement
    • ODOT Traffic Work Zone
    • Commercially Useful Function (CUF)

AND

  1. Possess 1 of the following:
    • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or Construction Management or degrees that exceed these requirements.

OR

  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II in Highway Construction Inspection Certification.

And meet 1 of the following experience scenarios:

  • Former ODOT Employee – HT3, HT4 & HT5, TM1, TM2, TM3, TA
  • 3200 hours of construction project technical experience is evidenced within the past 10 years.

OR

  • State DOT or Local Public Agency (local public agency means any city, county, township, municipality, or other political subdivision that may be empowered to cooperate with the State Transportation in highway matters.

OR a combination of the two

OR

  • 6400 hours of relevant construction project technical experience as defined in the ODOT Consultant Services Prequalification Manual. Hours must be evidenced within the last 10 years either having worked directly for the LPA or a State DOT or for a consultant working for the LPA or a State DOT.

Physical Requirements:

While successfully performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to routinely bend, kneel, climb, lift, and carry up to twenty-five (25) lbs. 

The employee must conform to the schedule assigned and required by their assigned project, which may include working in a remote location, during daylight or nighttime hours, and in extreme weather conditions.
