SAT/ACT Tutor Math and English

Do you like working with high school students? Do you like helping people gain confidence and reach their goals? Do you appreciate flexible hours and competitive pay?

Compass Academics is seeking candidates with backgrounds in Math and English to add to our SAT/ACT tutoring team.

Our Ideal team member will have (or be in the process of pursuing) a BA/BS in secondary education, Math, or English.  MIT candidates with secondary education concentrations particularly encouraged. Previous teaching or tutoring experience preferred, but not required.  Experience with virtual instruction a plus. All training provided.

Our approach to tutoring pairs individual clients with a team of two tutors (Math/Science & English/Reading) for the duration of our private, 7-week program.  Clients meet with their team twice weekly for one-hour sessions.  Sessions are scheduled for M/W or T/Th from 4-5, 5:15-6:15, 6:30-7:30, 7:45-8:45 CST during the academic year.  Hours are more flexible in the summer months. All of our sessions are virtual via Zoom.

Compass Academics Responsibilities:

  • Register clients
  • Schedule clients
  • Correspond with clients and deliver materials
  • Bill clients
  • Provide training, onboarding, and mentoring for new tutors

Tutor Responsibilities:

  • Commit to the support, encouragement, and motivation of clients
  • Deliver Proprietary content with enthusiasm
  • Commit to at least two SAT/ACT Prep cycles
  • Attend paid training via Zoom
  • Attend all scheduled sessions with client and tutoring partner
  • Maintain reliable Internet service and technology, including camera/speaker for  Zoom sessions.

*Compensation commensurate with education and experience.  Starting at $20/hour+

This is a 1099 position; all tutors are considered Independent Contractors.

*Note that tutors deliver content for 50% of the 7-week program, as they split instruction duties with their tutoring partner.  Tutors are expected to attend every session in a supporting role, but are only “on” for half of the sessions.
