Team Leader - Summer 2024

Position:  Team Leader (TL) 

Salary, Post Training: $500 per week, room and board included
Salary, Training: $75 per day, room, continental breakfast and lunch

 

Major Responsibilities:

UW-Whitewater is looking for outstanding role models to work at camp with middle/high school students in an indoor/outdoor.  Under the leadership of the Summer Manager, Team Leaders are responsible for the supervision and activities for camp participants.  We are looking for leaders who are committed to making a positive impact in the lives of the students we serve.  PreCollege Programs serves students ages 11-17 and strives to provide exceptional programming in its daily classroom instruction and enriching life experiences through its recreational and cultural activities.  Team Leaders will provide guidance during the cultural/academic programming, as well as monitoring during recreational events, floor monitoring in the residence halls during the evening/night hours, and general problem solving throughout the summer camp/program.  

PreCollege offers several camps varying in length from 1 week to 6 weeks.

 

Deliverables:

  • Lead leadership building sessions during down times
  • Lead Warhawk Experience class (for certain camps)
  • Able to stay overnight over the duration of camp
  • Establish a positive, high energy, optimistic tone throughout the day
  • Ensure that students are physically and emotionally safe
  • Develop solid mentorship relationships with students that are built on respect
  • Observe and respond to any students that are not engaging
  • Be active in identifying ways to ensure students are enjoying their time, engaging in classes, and feeling like they belong
  • Modeling what appropriate engagement looks like during classes and activities
  • Handle off-task, disruptive behavior in a respectful manner
  • Write up behavior incidents and follow protocol
  • Model the same behavior you expect to see from students
  • Monitor students and work with TLs to ensure student expectations are met and students are talked to and supported when students exhibit unusual or disruptive behavior
  • Observe groups throughout in-person camps
  • Ensure all classrooms and spaces are wiped down properly at the end of classes and meals
  • If a student is sick, carry out the safety plan to ensure all other staff and students are safe
  • Spend time in virtual classes to see how classes are running and if technology is running properly
  • Able to support in-person classes with technological needs
  • Problem solve and communicate with students and teachers in a calm and proactive manner, even if demands are high
  • Ensuring that all in-person classes have the technology needed to provide teachers what they need to teach their lessons
  • Step in with on-sight duties, as needed

 

Potential Dates of Employment: Monday, June 3, 2024 – Friday, July 26, 2024. Minimum of two weeks to a maximum of ten weeks, dependent on position; employment dates subject to change. Required training scheduled in the week of Monday, June 3, 2024; meals provided during training dates are a continental breakfast and lunch for all employees.
