Role Description

High temperature superconductor has gained tremendous progress recently and HTS magnets will be one of most important components in a magnetic confinement reactor. HTS magnet can produce very high magnetic field, up to 20 T, which has made very compact and low-cost reactors possible. This is a historically significant moment for HTS magnet-based fusion becoming a reality. In addition to US federal funding, billions of dollars are being invested in fusion energy by the private sector. It’s an amazing opportunity for those willing to work hard to make fusion energy a reality.

We are looking for an intern, ideally with a background in Electrical/electronic engineering or Electromagnetics to join our magnet design and fabrication team. You will be a magnet team member, perform magnetic simulations for HTS magnets, conduct electrical circuits design for magnet testing, control module for magnet operation, as well as software co-development. We encourage you to think out of the box for new ideas and concepts.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiar with EE circuit design software
  • Familiar with magnetic and electromagnetic design
  • Familiar with Ansys-EM, COMSOL, or other electrical simulation software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  • Ability to work as a team and independently.
  • Passion for new technology.

Other

  • Senior EE undergraduate and graduate are preferred.
  • Nice to have experiences with motor design and application.
  • Nice to have coil winding experiences, and industry control system development.
  • Flexible timing on start and end dates but prefer 10+ weeks minimum commitment.
