Biology Instructor/Assistant Professor

General Purpose

Big Sandy Community and Technical College in Eastern Kentucky is seeking qualified applicants for a full time, 10 month position of Biology Instructor/Assistant Professor on our Prestonsburg Campus.  

The normal teaching load is 15 credit hours per semester.

Essential Functions

 

Teach both face-to-face and on-line classes, creating & maintaining an environment that is conducive to learning.  

 

Utilize the Learning Management System (Blackboard) to support classroom instruction. 

 

The faculty member is expected to develop, assess and revise curriculum.

 

Mentor students in curriculum and career choices. 

 

Use effective teaching methodologies and regularly update course content. 

 

Provide accurate and informative syllabi to communicate student expectations and establish mutual respect. Actively communicating expectations, deadlines, and feedback on work completed. 

 

Actively recruit, advise and mentor students, maintaining regular office hours.

 

Serve on college committees and participate in college events and activities, provide external service to the community and participate in professional development activities.   

 

Assist with departmental activities, and continued scholarly growth and development. 

 

To meet enrollment needs, faculty members may occasionally work on a different campus. 

 

The faculty member will be expected to teach Principles of Biology lectures and laboratories for biology majors as well as Introductory Biology Courses & Labs for non-majors. May also teach Anatomy, Physiology and related courses with appropriate credentials.

 

Other duties may be assigned based on institutional need. 

 

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in biology, biomedical sciences, or other qualifying fields.  College-level teaching experience is preferred.  Credentials must be granted from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.  Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
