ALS Paramedic Transport

 

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the care of patients with range of need from uncomplicated to complex during interfacility transport. In collaboration with the patient and family, provides theory-based professional care and coordinates care delivery with the physician and other members of the healthcare team.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED Required or equivalent Required and
Successful completion of the Department of Transportation (DOT)
module EMT-Paramedic course. Required and Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to
release from orientation.

Licenses/Certifications: 
Health Services\PARAMEDIC - Paramedic – Licensed National Registry Paramedic required; Maryland and District of Columbia Paramedic Certifications, or ability to acquire prior to start date. Must have “MedSTAR Transport” or “Mid Atlantic Air Transportation Services” affiliation as an EMT-Paramedic. Upon Hire Required
Health Services\ACLS Upon Hire Required
BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
Health Services\PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Upon Hire Required
Transport Prof Adv Trauma Crse - TPATC ATLS, TPATC, PHTLS, TNCC or ATCN certification, or audit education as applicable, within 180 Days Required
NIH Stroke Scale - NIHSS NIHSS Stroke Scale Certification within 90 Days Required
FEMA ICS 100 Course FEMA IS-100.c Introduction to the Incident Command System Upon Hire Required
FEMA ICS 200 Course FEMA IS-200.c Basic Incident Command systems for Initial Response Upon Hire Required
 

Multiple locations, including Clinton and Baltimore

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Based on assessment of physical, emotional, bio-physical, and spiritual needs, provides direct patient care and evaluates outcomes. Incorporates the principles of patient-centered care.
  • Communicates patient's clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format. Clearly and accurately documents pertinent information in the patient's medical record. Consistently demonstrates effective documentation practices and develops strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care.
  • Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families. Provides basic patient comfort measures during procedures. When necessary, provides environmental support to expedite timely patient admission or transfer. Identifies and acts upon opportunities to improve the environment of care.
  • Provides for the emotional support of patients and families during the crisis of illness. Demonstrates patient/family advocacy.
  • Delivers expert paramedic care in ambulances to multiple patient types to include adult subspecialties and pediatrics.
  • Collaborates with on line medical control physicians to manage the patient care of complex patients in transport.
  • Administers and maintains pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids during inter hospital transports.
  • Ensures safe operations during ambulance related activities in coordination with the Emergency Vehicle Operator.
