Curriculum Life Skills Special Education Teacher

  • Up to a $2,500 signing bonus. Bonus tied to hard-to-fill designation.
  • All years of experience may be granted if deemed a hard-to-fill position.
  • Stipend for additional caseload (proposed).
  • Must hold a NE Teaching Certificate with the proper endorsement.        

 

These are related to programs covered under Title 92, Chapter 51 of the Nebraska Department of Education.  Programs funded by Federal Grant funds may have additional requirements.

DEPARTMENT: Special Education             

 

JOB TITLE:  Special Education Teacher

 

FTE:      1.0   FULL TIME                                                                                                                

 

REQUIREMENTS:           

A.            Education Level: Bachelors Degree or higher.              

B.            Certification or Licensure:  A valid Nebraska teaching certificate with a Special Education Generalist Endorsement.

 

REPORTS TO: Receives guidance from building principal and Director of Student Services 

                                                                                                                

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:            

 

  1. Implement comprehensive instruction for students with cognitive disabilities that require functional academic, social, and vocational training in the environments of the self-contained classroom, community, and job sites.
  2. Developing students’ cognitive capacity and maximize potential for becoming a productive and contributing member of the community as an adult.
  3. Positively fostering students’ self-esteem
  4. Working with and understanding a diverse student population
  5. Integration of leadership, technology, and communication into the curriculum
  6. Planning for and guiding the learning process to help students achieve program objectives
  7. Maintaining a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning
  8. Implementing useful diagnostic and progress assessment measures
  9. Selecting and using effective instructional methods and learning materials
  10. Establishing a cooperative relationship with all assigned students
  11. Maintaining open lines of communication with parents/ guardians/ staff
  12. Engaging in professional growth activities through an ongoing program of job-related knowledge and skill development
  13. Working collaboratively to achieve the overall purpose of the school’s program and support the District’s vision, aims and goals
  14. Integrating of the themes of leadership, technology, and communication with a diverse population

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Never 0%, Occasional 1-32%, Frequent 33-66% and Constant 67%+

 

Occasional: bending/stooping, reaching/pushing, pulling, climbing, driving, lifting 10# max, carrying 20ft. manual dexterity tasks: computer keyboard
