Adjunct Instructor in Library

The Harry A. Sprague Library on the Montclair campus seeks 2 adjunct instructors to provide information literacy instruction that supports the undergraduate curriculum. Reporting to the Head for Research and Reference Services, these individuals will prepare materials for and deliver library sessions in-person as well as online. Maintain office hours for related research appointments. Each adjunct instructor will work for an average of 10 hours per week across the semester.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Delivers standardized as well as original, customized information literacy instruction sessions, workshops, tours, and/or other orientation/engagement activities in-person and online
  • Prepares instructional materials in consultation with instructor on record and handles any follows-up, as needed
  • Works closely with relevant liaison librarians on standardized lessons (e.g., for Writing Studies courses)
  • Provides office hours and/or research appointments for individuals or small groups in-person and online
  • Completes required statistics and assessments
  • Provides regular updates to the Head for Research and Reference Services, as requested
  • Work may include evening hours

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school
  • A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience, preferably at the college level
  • Strong cultural awareness and demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility
  • Ability to communicate effectively and constructively orally and in writing with colleagues, supervisors, and others within and outside the Department
  • Ability to work both independently as well as collegially and productively in a team environment

 

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with the ACRL Framework, critical pedagogy, and/or current information literacy teaching principles and practices.
  • Experience with creating learning objects (e.g., tutorials, quizzes, rubrics, etc.)
  • Experience with the Springshare suite of apps, including LibAnswers, LibCal, LibGuides, and LibInsight
  • Familiarity with Canvas
  • Proficiency in Spanish
