GDA Internship - Food, Feed, Meat, Animal Health & more

The Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) has hosted dozens of interns in various sections within the Department’s oversight. These students come from several universities and colleges, studying majors both directly and indirectly related to agriculture. The Department looks forward to expanding and promoting its internship program. Students who are interested in a possible internship opportunity with the Department can learn more from our Internship FAQ.

Internship positions are primarily based out of the Department’s headquarters building in Downtown Atlanta. There may be additional positions at the Tifton Laboratory, which serves as the Department’s South Georgia base of operations. Internships generally last from 10-16 weeks, with hours depending on the specific requirements of an individual internship. Some travel may be expected during an internship.

Depending on the needs of the Department, internships may be available in several divisions. These divisions include Administration, Agricultural Inputs (Feed), Animal Industry, Communications, Finance, Food Safety, Fuel and Measures, Human Resources, Information Technology, Laboratory, Legal Services, Licensing, Marketing, Plant Protection, and Structural Pest.

Requirements: Applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. and either be enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution, or have graduated within one calendar year of the desired internship timeframe. A general interest in agriculture is strongly preferred. An educational background in the study of agriculture is not required, but may be desired for certain available internship opportunities.

Duties: Internship opportunities with the Department may include, but are not limited to: providing administrative and office support; giving guest tours of the Department headquarters and Tifton Lab facilities; shadowing and working with field officers during agriculture inspections; laboratory studies, research and testing; promoting and assisting with Department activities and Georgia Grown products and marketing events; and generally serving as an advocate for Georgia agriculture.
