Post Doctoral Associate - Biology

The Silveira lab is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Biology at the University of Miami (Miami, FL). The Silveira Lab studies bacteriophage-bacteria interactions in aquatic environments and animal-associated microbiomes. Bacteriophages (phages) modulate the ecological roles and evolutionary trajectories of their bacterial hosts. The Postdoctoral Associate will investigate phage-bacteria interactions in South Florida ecosystems, like coral reefs, Sargassum blooms, and the Everglades. Specifically, the postdoctoral associate will conduct field sampling and laboratory experiments to understand the ecological drivers and outcomes of different phage infection strategies. The investigation will have a strong genomics component and t postdoctoral associate should have a background in bioinformatics.

The Postdoctoral Associate will receive training in microbial multi-omics and bioinformatics and will have the opportunity to develop skills in grant writing, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and writing papers as lead and co-author. Please refer to www.silveiralab.com for more information about our research.

Candidates must have a PhD in Biology or related discipline and must have research experience in metagenomics in any study system, with preference for those with experience in microbial communities. The candidate must have a deep interest in phage biology and microbial community interactions. Other important qualifications are a background in statistical methods, a strong work ethic, experience in manuscript writing, and a track record of publications.

This is a one-year position with the possibility for renewal provided that first-year performance is satisfactory and funds are available. Start date is flexible, but an ideal candidate would begin as soon as possible.
