University Relations - IL Provider Performance Data Analytics Intern

Job Summary

HCSC is doing innovative and important work to align incentives and analytics at the point of care by delivering actionable insights to providers. The IL Provider Performance Analytics, Insights and Data Science team delivers advanced analytics and insights as we lead the way to improve healthcare by increasing collaboration with providers to ensure coverage that is affordable, accessible, appropriate, effective, and equitable. An ideal candidate will be interested in a role working to leverage analytics, data engineering and/or data science in pursuit of better healthcare outcomes for the community.

What Are Your Responsibilities?

As an intern, you will work to find innovative solutions to existing or emerging healthcare challenges. You will use complex healthcare data about our 17 million members and a variety of technical, analytics, data science, and visualization tools to build, deploy and enable predictive models and generate and deliver insights and advanced analytics. As an Analytics intern you will:

  • Verify accuracy of reports and insights
  • Produce datasets and reporting using SQL, SAS, or other data analytics tools.
  • Produce and refine data visualizations using Tableau or other visualization tools.
  • Evaluate existing data analytics and make recommendations for enhancements.
  • Act as a liaison between the business stakeholders and the provider performance data analytics and data science teams.

What Do You Need To Be Successful? 

  • Preferred: Familiar with Tableau or other data visualization tools
  • Preferred: Experience with SQL, Hive, or other SQL-like query languages
  • Preferred: Education or professional experience with machine learning, statistical analysis, and data visualization practices
  • Preferred: Previous healthcare, data science, or technology-related internship experience
  • Analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills Innovation, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking is a strong plus.

  • Strong communication skills

  • Practical, developed PC skills, especially Excel, Word, and Access

What Are the Requirements You Must Meet? 

  • Enrolled in a master’s or Ph.D. program in an Analytic, Quantitative, Computational or related field.
  • Graduation date between December 2024 - June 2025
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Availability to work 10 weeks during the summer.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States (Currently, we are not offering this position with a student visa including F1, OPT, CPT or H1B and are not accepting or sponsoring student work visas for this role)
