Racing Engine Sub-Assembly Technician

Ilmor Engineering provides design, development, testing, and manufacturing of performance engines and parts for major manufacturers and racing teams throughout the world. Our clients include automotive, marine, IndyCar, ARCA, and NASCAR among others.

The Sub Assembly Technician is responsible for day-to-day sub-assembly tasks supporting engine and component assembly and inspection. The individual will deal with engine teardowns, quality checking, testing and provide high tolerance, high quality parts in a demanding, racing environment.

Essential Job Function
  • Disassembly, cleaning, quality checking, crack testing using nondestructive methods.
  • Make quality decisions based on known life/usage and condition of the parts
  • Engine and component record keeping to procedures.
  • Inspection of engine components, and verification they are to the appropriate standard.
  • Measure components to close tolerances
  • Set and verify part clearances to design documents
  • Verify conformance of parts to stock lists or blueprints using advanced measuring instruments, such as calipers, gauges, or micrometers
  • Accurate use of measuring equipment and the required hand tools
  • Meet or exceed quality standards
  • Other duties may be assigned
Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 to 3 years of recent engine experience in a low volume or custom application is preferred
  • Must have full knowledge of how an engine works and be very detail and service oriented
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft applications
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effective communicator and collaborator
  • Able to work hard and maintain quality standards with tight deadlines
  • Able to work overtime when needed
Desired Qualifications
  • Vocational Certification or Associates Degree in a related subject such as Automotive Performance, Automotive Technician, or related field would be preferred
  • Experience building motorsport engines

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position and is eligible for overtime pay when approved by your manager

Physical Requirements/Work Environment
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand. The employee is frequently required to use their hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, use tools or controls and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, crawl and talk or hear.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and explosives.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, some instances of this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.
