Sharing Our Roots Farm Communications Internship (CCCE)
**NOTE: This is a low or unfunded opportunity. You will be eligible to apply for summer internship funding from Carleton if you will be returning to campus in the fall.
Join the team at Sharing Our Roots farm, a regenerative farm powered by emerging farmers and farmers of color. This Farm Communications internship offers a unique opportunity to support Sharing Our Roots Farm’s sustainable agricultural and land access work, while building communication, visual content, and design skills. As a member of the communications team, you will collaborate with the Communications Director and Commons Cohort Facilitator to create engaging content, visually capture farm life through photography, and help coordinate and lead regular farmers’ markets. We are flexible on your start date so you can combine this internship with working Carleton’s Reunion weekend or Lighten Up resue sale.
Job Description:
Content Development (5-10 hrs/week)
The Farm Communications intern will assist with developing, creating, and publishing content on our Communications calendar. Based on personal interest and organizational need, this could include posting about our work on social media (Instagram/Facebook/LinkedIn), designing flyers or other promotional materials, creating original illustrations, or helping to write monthly email newsletters. No prior communications experience is required, but applicants should have interest in design, social media, copywriting, or other communication mediums.
Photography/Video Work (up to 5 hrs/week)
As a working farm, the summer is a busy time at Sharing Our Roots and we seek support from the Farm Communications intern in photographing the wide array of activity on our 163 acres. This could include photographing farmers and community gardeners as they work, taking photos and videos of prairie flowers, or photographing a community event at the farm. The Farm Communications intern will also aid in maintaining SOR’s photo archive (held in Google Drive) and work with the Communications Director to place photos and videos into external communication materials and graphics.
Farmers’ Market Coordination (5-10 hrs/week)
In the summer of 2024, Sharing Our Roots Farm will host regular farmers’ markets, highlighting our Commons Cohort farmers and Community Connector gardeners. The Farm Communications intern will co-lead this effort through the promotion of markets (social media, promotional emails, and flyer design and distribution) and helping facilitate day-of needs at the market (leading set-up and tear-down, running EBT/SNAP register, and contributing to a welcoming environment at the farm).
