As a Summer Intern you will perform engineering design, modeling, drafting and detailing tasks in support of commissioning and high-performance building design projects. The successful candidate will assist with promoting the design of sustainable, high-performance buildings that maintain healthier environments, increase occupant comfort, lower utility and operating costs and perform as intended by the design team and client.  You will work closely with multidisciplinary design teams from conceptual design through project closeout and post-occupancy phases to improve the performance of projects and ensure a holistic, integrated design process occurs.  You will perform assignments under the direct supervision of one or more licensed engineers and concentrate on technical documentation tasks that contribute to overall project sustainability and operation. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assists with the development and coordination of energy models to estimate and analyze building energy usage
  • Assists with consultation to project team to establish, design, and specify high performance building and system solutions
  • Assists to conduct site investigations and observations
  • Aids in the diagnosis and resolution of system and equipment problems
  • Assists with the commissioning process from design to post-occupancy on multiple simultaneous projects
  • Assists to prepare narratives, reports, hand and computer calculations, and documents in accordance with a high degree of quality, yet with regard to project schedule and budget constraints
  • Additional assignments may include attending client and internal meetings, and assisting with marketing/business development activities
  • Travel for project-related work will be required

Qualifications

  • Must be working towards graduation of ABET-accredited degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with computer software including REVIT, SketchUp and Rhino
  • Knowledge and proficiency using load, system sizing, and energy modeling software is a plus.
  • Strong graphic, verbal, and written communication skills and knowledge of other building systems.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to being an active participant working as part of a multi-discipline team 
  • Active involvement and demonstrated leadership skills in extracurricular activities on campus and in the community is preferred.
  • Able to react with flexibility in schedule changes on projects
  • Able to deal with competing priorities and manage time appropriately
