The Volunteer Services Coordinator will deliver high-level customer service to the Lee County community via volunteer programs including recruitment, training, follow-up support, and needs related to Animal Services assigned volunteers. This position requires communication with a diverse group of people in a consistently compassionate, informative, respectful, and professional manner.

The Volunteer Services Coordinator will be responsible for the development, recruitment, retention, and coordination of the volunteer programs for the Animal Services Department. Duties include scheduling and conducting volunteer orientation, training, and assignment of volunteers to meet the goals of the department. This will consist of planning, scheduling, and assigning volunteers for special events.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Recruit, train, coordinate, and retain volunteers.
  • Responsible for aiding in supervising and engaging with volunteers daily to ensure volunteers have a positive, quality experience and are following proper protocol, procedures, and best practices.
  • Responsible for resolving issues that volunteers may encounter.
  • Maintain directives, manuals, and protocols associated with the volunteer program.
  • Provide tactful and courteous communication with the general public.
  • Establish partnerships with community residents, volunteers, and other community-based organizations.
  • Assist with the development and planning of shelter and off-site special events.
  • Schedule volunteer participation to ensure events are properly staffed.
  • Provide accurate information to the public.
  • Assist in the shelter office and prepare required paperwork.
  • Answer telephones and resolve citizen issues when needed.
  • Maintains a budget, inventory, and supply of volunteer care equipment, materials, and literature for associated programs.
  • Uses data management software and other resources to gather, track, and maintain detailed information and statistics regarding departmental programs, including creating reports as needed.
  • Utilizes complied information to evaluate and refine programs and services.
  • Performs related work as required.

 

Education, Experience, Licensing

 

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to the satisfactory completion of two years of college in business, marketing, communications, public relations, or a closely related field and two years of customer service, marketing, recruiting, public relations or closely related experience.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.
  • Prior animal handling experience is preferred.

  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and prioritize accordingly to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use general office equipment; Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • The workdays and hours are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Days and hours for this position will vary. Must have the ability to work a rotational shift which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Additional shifts as needed, including emergency response.
