Description of Work Unit:

The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE) was organized in 2006 to advance CSU’s engagement and outreach missions. OEE includes CSU Extension, CSU Extended Campus (including CSU Online), the Colorado Water Center and a variety of vibrant programs that engage the teaching, research, extension, and service missions of Colorado State University. The Vice President for Engagement and Extension (VPEE) is the principal administrative, academic, and fiscal officer for the division, reports to the CSU President, and works closely with the Provost/Executive Vice President. OEE works collaboratively across all Colleges and offices on campus, and has strong engagement programs throughout Colorado, the Western US and globally. At any given time, OEE includes over 400 employees. The combined budget totals is approximately $85 million. OEE is one of the most institutionally comprehensive commitments to engagement and outreach among all land-grant and other universities. Propelled by OEE’s leadership, nationally CSU is a Carnegie Engaged University (2008, 2014), is a member of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium, is an APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity University (2016) and is highly ranked for its online degree programs. Annually, CSU Extended Campus garners enrollments of over 10,000 learners and CSU Extension delivers approximately 500,000 educational contacts.

 

For more than 50 years, CSU Extended Campus, an enterprise division of Colorado State University which includes CSU Online, has been delivering online and distance programs developed at the flagship research campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. CSU Extended Campus provides affordable access to a high-quality education from wherever students call home around the nation and world, on a schedule that fits their lives. CSU’s distance students receive the same education, learn from the same faculty, and earn the same regionally accredited degree as students on the Fort Collins campus. CSU Extended Campus offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degrees and 35 for-credit certificate programs, delivered online and at locations across Colorado, as well as hundreds of professional education noncredit courses, digital badge programs, and open lifelong learning courses.


CSU Extended Campus is a center of innovation at the university, supporting not only the development of online and distance courses and programs but also the enhancement of campus instruction. CSU Extended Campus has a staff of over 80 professionals delivering educational programs and services through CSU Online, Professional Education (non-credit programs), Collaboration Campuses, and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. This position serves each of those entities as part of a 24-person Learning Production and Training team. CSU Extended Campus collaborates closely with the colleges, departments, and divisions across the university, with other universities in the CSU System, and with government, business, non-profit organizations as well as other educational institutions.

Job Description:

The Office of Engagement and Extension (OEE) Learning Production Team seeks a student (graduate or undergraduate) to assist with caption editing of visual/auditory course materials. Responsibilities include updating machine generated captions to 100% accuracy, evaluating incoming text for quality, including accurate placement, grammar, identification of sound cues and effects, and conducting research for correct spellings, terms, translations, and information to ensure accuracy. We are looking for a student who is detail-oriented, familiar with standard English punctuation, grammar, and style, has strong typing skills, and is willing and excited to learn. 

  • This will be a remote position for the foreseeable future. Applicants must have reliable access to a private, uninterrupted, and quiet location with a strong internet connection to conduct job duties from.
  • CSU Online students from a variety of degree programs, interests, and identities are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • We offer a flexible schedule Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 am and 7 pm with about 10-20 hours per week work (depending on your preferences), with the opportunity to increase hours depending on business needs.

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Editing captions and transcripts for instructional materials.

 

Required Skills:

  • Excellent typing skills.
  • Proofreading and editorial skills with outstanding sense of grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style.
  • Research skills with the ability to research spellings of uncommon words, places, events, and names.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be deadline driven and able work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work fall, spring, and summer semesters.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with and understanding of captioning and subtitling specifications.
  • Previous editing and/or proofreading experience preferred.
  • Strong technical proficiency with computers and computer applications.

 

Hourly Pay Rate:

$14.25 per hour
