Microbiologist 1-2 DOH7785

There are 2 Microbiologist positions that will be filled using this recruitment, one position is permanent, and one position is project. The project position is anticipated to be funded through July 31, 2024. 

 

Join the Washington State Department of Health Public Health Laboratories and play a crucial role in safeguarding public health. As a member of the BioWatch/Emergency Response Laboratory team, you'll be at the forefront of detecting and responding to high consequence pathogens and biothreat agents. This on-site position involves year-round environmental testing to identify potential releases, as well as collaborating with first responders, law enforcement, epidemiologists, and local health departments for emergency response testing. Your work will contribute to the timely and accurate detection of infectious diseases, ultimately helping protect the health of the people of Washington State. To enter at the Microbiologist 1 level: (NOTE: Incumbents that are hired at the Microbiologist 1 level will advance to the Microbiologist 2 level after completing two (2) years of satisfactory service as a Microbiologist 1.)
 

  • Option 1: A Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in Microbiology.

OR  

  • Option 2: A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell biology, Biology, Chemistry, or another basic medical science, WHICH INCLUDES 20 or more semester hours or quarter hours equivalent in microbiology, or a subject related to the study of microorganisms.

 

To enter at the Microbiologist 2 level: 
 

  • Option 1: A Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in Microbiology; AND two (2) or more years of experience in a Microbiology or Molecular laboratory.

OR  

  • Option 2: A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell biology, Biology, Chemistry, or another basic medical science, WHICH INCLUDES 20 or more semester hours or quarter hours equivalent in microbiology, or a subject related to the study of microorganisms; AND two (2) or more years of experience in a Microbiology or Molecular laboratory.

OR  

  • Option 3: A master’s degree in microbiology; AND one (1) or more years of experience in a Microbiology or Molecular laboratory.

OR

  • Option 4: A Masters’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell biology, Biology, Chemistry, or another basic medical science, WHICH INCLUDES 20 or more semester hours or quarter hours equivalent in microbiology, or a subject related to the study of microorganisms; AND one (1) or more years of experience in a Microbiology or Molecular laboratory.

OR

  • Option 5: A PhD in Microbiology.

OR

  • Option 6: A PHD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell biology, Biology, Chemistry, or another basic medical science, WHICH INCLUDES 20 or more semester hours or quarter hours equivalent in microbiology, or a subject related to the study of microorganisms.
