Engineering Student Assistant- Technician/Field Work - Construction (Bakersfield, CA)

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire an engineering student assistant to assist professional engineering staff with duties relating to administration of construction contracts, under the close supervision of a senior transportation engineer. The engineering student assistant will also have assignments in the field to broaden their knowledge of engineering practices and procedures, increase their analytical skills related to construction contract management, and to obtain practical experience in construction contract administration.

General office duties may include quantity calculations, assisting in the processing of contract change orders, assisting in preparing estimates for monthly progress payments, and updating existing databases and/or spreadsheets. General field duties may include inspection of finished products, calculation of units completed for payment, monitoring of contractor operations to ensure compliance with safety orders, and sampling materials.
