Do you want to contribute to reducing wildfire risk, the safe build out of gas (natural gas, hydrogen, and other) infrastructure, and the de-carbonization of the gas sector? All these issues are essential elements of California's ambitious energy transition and environmental goals in which safety branch is actively representing ratepayers. In this role under the general direction of the Program & Project Supervisor, the incumbent’s primary assignments are related to the use, analysis, and modeling of utility spatial data using Geographical Information System software and analytical programs such as R and Python. Research, analysis, and modelling activities will be in support of the branch's advocacy on proceedings related to wildfire safety, gas safety programs, and utility risk assessment proceedings.

The primary focus of the position will be data visualization, spatial modeling, and the development of datasets and methods to support the branch’s utility engineers and regulatory analysts in their advocacy. The role requires excellent organizational and management skills as well as a pragmatic ability to get the best out of often imperfect data sources. The position will involve coordination and collaboration with other branches both within the division and with other Commission divisions. The incumbent may be assigned work in other areas and branches of the organization, as needed.
