Student Assistant in Research Development
The Dean's Office in the School of Biological Sciences (BioSci) is looking for a Student Assistant to join its Research Development Unit (RAD). RAD is composed of a group of staff members who support BioSci researchers in applying for external research funding and managing the resulting awards. This position will require a commitment of 19 hours per week.
The Assistant will work closely with the Research Development Lead to curate content for BioSci's twice monthly newsletter, maintain a boilerplate text library, and maintain the RAD Unit website. This position will involve communicating with staff and faculty members to gather information. It will also involve reading newsletters and articles from research sponsors, such as the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, to collect information that the Assistant will later summarize and synthesize. The Assistant will also work with the Contracts and Grants Director on the following Post-Award tasks: managing and organizing electronic files, handling copying, running errands, making deliveries and pick-ups across campus, reconciling monthly ledgers, maintaining spreadsheets of various financial information, and contacting lab personnel to obtain PCDO backup documents.
In this position, the Assistant will learn how researchers obtain grant funding and, in part, about federal sponsors of such research. The position will give the Student Assistant the opportunity to refine their written communication skills, learn to tailor writing to a particular audience, and learn or refine skills with software used for mass email communication and website design.
