Sourcing Engineer:
The Sourcing Engineer at Great Lakes Rubber will be responsible for reviewing and understanding customer requirements for new business inquiries, helping to effective source existing products, and effectively communicating with both customers and vendors to recommend products and solutions.

Responsibilities:
- Read and understand part drawing, technical specifications, and certification requirements
- Ability to recommend material selection and product based on:
- Basic materials and their recommended uses
- Modified materials and the effect on physical properties and chemical resistance
- Ability to understand product range and primary application
- Ability to recommend product shape and sizing for optimal application performance
- Understand and effectively communicate application design standards, including:
- Gland design
- Mating interactions/features
- Installation features/recommendations
- Provide engineering recommendation/approval for technical quotes
- Provide basic sales support, including the ability to review customer application and recommend course of action for:
- Improved seal life
- Reduced installation time/failure
- Reduced cost
- Ability to understand and create compliance documentation
- Reach/RoHs
- Conflict Minerals
- NAFTA Certifications
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers and recognized opportunities to provide technical value, not just “quote-to-print”
- Take on other projects as assigned
Competencies:
- Excellent math and spatial reasoning skills, with the ability to read and understand prints, assembly drawings, tolerance, and stack-up.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interface with all internal and external contacts
- Detail oriented with demonstrated organizational and multitasking skills a must
- Team player who is assertive, goal-oriented, positive, and self-motivated
- High level of Integrity
- Ability to rapidly build knowledge of our systems and our customer’s practices
Other:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant work experience required
Experience: 2+ Years of Engineering/Design
Computer Skills: Advanced
Certificates & Licenses: AS400 preferred
Other Requirements: He/she must participate in mandated company emergency procedures such as fire evacuation procedures and active shooter procedures. They will also comply with company building and parking procedures.
