Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) provides services used by nearly every citizen of the State. Colorado citizens utilize identification, driver, and vehicle services at State and County offices to obtain identification cards, driver licenses, vehicle registrations, titles, and other related services. Additionally, the DMV licenses and provides oversight of private businesses and government organizations that provide driver and emission testing services. Finally, the division works closely with other state agencies and programs to provide information and education to serve the public and encourage voluntary compliance.

We're hiring customer service oriented individuals for our entry level Driver License Technician Trainee role at the Steamboat Springs Driver License location! This position is a trainee role where you will learn to ensure compliance with Colorado Revised Statutes and Federal laws, Department policies, rules and procedures in the issuance of Colorado documents to qualified applicants. Primary Duties:

Customer Service

Interact with customers as the primary point of contact. 

Communicate with customers about their needs, eligibility, and ensure compliance. 

Work with the customer and DLO team to troubleshoot any issues.

Assess the applicant's behavior and source documents and exercise first-line decision-making related to acceptability of source documents, proof of identity, suspected fraud, medical requirements, etc.

Provide information to the public concerning statute, policy, and procedure including thorough explanation of identification requirements, requirements to obtain a class of license, and other information

Data Entry  

Process computer-generated driver's license, identification documents and hearing requests.

Verify eligibility for and process reinstatements.

Assess authenticity of documentation by comparing applicant's statements with available data, utilizing SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification Entitlements) SSOLV (Social Security Online Verification) and PDPB (Problem Driver Pointer) system/Commercial Driver License information system

Administer written, oral, automated testing and grade examinations for all classes of commercial, standard and motorcycle licenses and permits

Eligibility 

Qualify applicants for a driver's license and Colorado ID card by determining applicant's needs and eligibility. 

Verify applicant's true identity by comparing biometric and demographic data with applicant's identifying documents and statements. 

Review documentation submitted for proof of identification/lawful presence by the applicant

Cash Handling 

Inquire and collect fees for organ donor program and complete voter registration applications

Collect and account for money received for all documents issued (This includes maintaining a cash drawer, counting cash, and balancing receipts)

May be required to travel and work between multiple Driver License Offices. The successful candidate will be required to sit and stand for long periods throughout the day.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

 

 

COLORADO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:

Applicants may be ineligible to apply for this position and subsequently disqualified if they do not have a Colorado address and a Colorado State issued Driver's License at the time of application.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education to meet the qualifications:

OPTION 1:

1 year of experience in a customer service role.

OR

OPTION 2:

College or university coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Management, Information Technology, or similar field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
Preference will be given to applicants with:

State experience in a work environment in which laws, rules, and regulations are put into place

Customer service experience utilizing conflict resolution techniques

Customer service experience utilizing problem solving skills 

Strong written, computer and data entry skills

Prior work in a high stress environment maintaining a professional attitude

Prior work collaborating and working on a team

Driver License Systems Fundamentals (DLF Certification) :  

Newly hired (or transferred) Driver License Technician Trainees are designated "in training" for the first year in this position.

Driver License Technician Trainees receive Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training and regular DLF skills evaluations. Before completing one year in position Driver License Technician Trainees are required to complete DLF Certification. After one year in the position, the Trainee may be reallocated to a Technician II.

Failure to achieve DLF Certification during the first year in position may result in removal from position and possible termination of employment. 


 

Conditions of Employment with the CDOR:

Employees are in a position of public trust in the performance of their job duties and must operate in a manner that maintains the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and public confidence. 


 

As a condition of employment with the CDOR, all personnel must file all necessary Colorado Individual Income Tax (CIIT) returns and pay tax obligations, therefore all employees must undergo a pre-employment evaluation of their tax records/accounts to ensure compliance with this policy. Final candidates must also complete a successful background investigation and reference check prior to appointment. Certain positions based on duties may require scheduled background investigations.
