Sanitarian Trainee (Environmental Trainee)

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will participate in a one-year formal and on-the-job training program to learn the duties of a Sanitarian. You will be responsible for implementing the goals and objectives of the Safe Drinking Water Program within an assigned geographic area. In addition, you will also gain technical knowledge and familiarity with the statutes and regulations of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) relative to the program. An understanding of policies and procedures necessary to conduct required field activities and exercise professional judgment to solve problems is required. Specific duties will include consulting with and/or responding to private water supply cases, water-related issues from other department programs and/or state or federal agencies, conditions caused by drought or flooding, and other emergency situations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Knox.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS
  Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Necessary Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
