Fire Design Engineer

Job Function: The Design Engineer is responsible for the design of each fire protection system and conducting all steps to ensure quality and compliance, as well as coordinate with department supervisor and applicable sales representatives.

Job Type: Full Time Perm 

Location: Onsite Maple Grove, MN 

Scope of Job: RCM is seeking candidates for the Fire Protection Designer position. Candidates will have prior experience in reviewing and designing fire protection systems in compliance with all codes and insurance requirements. 

Responsibilities: 

• Design fire sprinkler systems and conduct hydraulic calculations for jobs. 
• Submit plans to General Contractors/owner and follow specifications. 
• Conduct surveys on buildings if needed. 
• Finalize fabrication techniques with supervisor and applicable sales rep. 
• Complete final shop drawings showing all pertinent information. 
• Compile the foreman's envelope including all necessary forms and paperwork. Process all necessary close-out documents accurately and timely. 
• Use AutoCAD and Hydra CAD in the design of fire protection systems.

Qualifications: 

• Associated Degree in Fire Protection Design preferred and/or 3 years of experience in designing and engineering. 
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Hydra CAD.
• NICET certification preferred. 
• Strong aptitude in mathematical concepts, such as geometry, fractions, and measuring. 
• A good understanding of commercial and industrial building construction. 
• Ability to read and interpret documents, such as codes, standards, specifications, safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. 
• Excellent time management and organizational skills. 
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Education & Certifications: 

• Associate degree in Fire Protection Design preferred and/or 3 years of experience in designing and engineering.
