Mental Health Clinician

POSITION:             Mental Health Clinician

 

REPORTS TO:       Health Services Coordinator and/or Senior Executive Director of Special Education and Pupil Services

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide clinical mental health services to students enrolled in the School Based Health Center.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.       Provide psychosocial assessment to students.

2.       Provide individual and group counseling to students and their parents.

3.       Provide crisis intervention.

4.       Refer students to appropriate community resources for social and mental health services when needed.

5.       Aid in developing standard procedures to handle crisis.

6.       Work as a team with the School Based Health Center staff and other staff from the school.

7.       Serve as Field Instructor for student interns.

8.       Help clinic staff identify students at risk, and facilitate access to appropriate services.

9.       Provide written documentation and billing documentation of all services.

10.    Provide monthly reports and maintain records as required by School Clinic and the Department of Public Health.

11.    Advise on and promote mental health issues relevant to the student population and the clinic.

12.    Contribute to the development of standard operational procedures for mental health related services at one specific school.

13.    Participate in staff development within the clinic and school.

14.    Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

1.       Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or Psychology required.

2.       Licensed by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) required.

3.       Bilingual, Spanish/English preferred.

4.       Demonstrated success in working with school aged children, adolescents and families.

5.       Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively with school and community groups.

6.       Prior experience as a community clinic provider

7.       Ability to work under difficult time constraints.

8.       Knowledge of services and resources available in the Hartford area.

 

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Non Certified

 

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month work year. Salary Grid A515 ($56,159 - $67,640). 

 

Hartford Public Schools is offering a signing incentive of up to $5,000 for full-time, newly hired certified teachers in district identified shortage areas for the 2023-24 school year. 

 

EVALUATION: Evaluated annually.
