Justice for Montanans AmeriCorps Project

We have filled all slots for our 24/25 service term running September 2024-August 2025. We will review applications and reach out for interviews with qualified applicants in January 2025 for our 25/26 service term running September 2025-August 2026.

19 AmeriCorps members in the Justice for Montanans Program serve with different organizations to provide legal assistance to low-income Montanans. Sites include:
-Montana Legal Services Association
-Supreme Court Self Help Law Centers
-Office of the Child and Family Ombudsman
-Office of the State Public Defender
-Legal Services Developer Program (Aging Services)
-Montana Innocence Project
We begin interviews for the upcoming service term (September 3, 2024-August 8, 2025) in late January 2024. Positions are filled on rolling basis throughout the Spring.
AmeriCorps members perform a variety of duties including working with clients, providing legal information and referrals, helping attorneys with case management, developing outreach materials and presentations, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, helping survivors of domestic violence access services, and much more. Legal experience is not necessary, and all members will be trained in various skills and topics. AmeriCorps members will receive a living allowance, health insurance, and an education award at the successful completion of the term.
Positions are located throughout Montana including Billings, Bozeman, Helena, and Missoula.
Qualifications
Applicants must pass a national service criminal history check. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified applicants upon request.
AmeriCorps requires U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien status for service.
Bachelor's degree recommended.
Benefits
Members receive a living allowance, health insurance, relocation allowance (up to $550), and an education award. Members may also be eligible for student loan forbearance and childcare assistance. These benefits are updated each May, check our website for current rates!
