How You'll Perform The Role
The Controls Engineering Technician will provide hands-on, technical expertise in the troubleshooting, installation, repair, and maintenance of machinery and equipment in the assigned manufacturing facilities. His or her technical proficiency, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail will play a crucial role in machine uptime, seamless operations, and optimization of our manufacturing processes. This resource will report to the Maintenance Supervisor or Manager and will work closely with Operations, Engineering, and other functional areas within the scope of their daily work.
- Utilizes in-depth knowledge of controls systems, instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming to identify and resolves issues affecting production machinery and automation systems by identifying faults and implementing solutions for increased reliability
- Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on a wide range of electrical, electronic components, motor controls and mechanical components that support production machinery and support equipment.
- Conduct calibration and testing of various control devices, sensors, and instruments to ensure accurate and precise operation. Use diagnostic tools and software to validate
- Maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, repairs, and troubleshooting steps. Generate reports outlining root causes, applied solutions, and suggestions
- Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize equipment performance, reduce downtime, and enhance overall efficiency
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and industry regulations while performing maintenance tasks. Collaborates with safety team to identify and address potential hazards.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, production managers and team members, and maintenance crafts, to support projects and resolve issues promptly
- May occasionally travel to and consult with other facilities based on their expertise, serving as a subject matter expert for certain processes within our various processes
- Stay updated on latest advancements in control system technology and automation, and may attend vendor training for any new or existing equipment, as necessary
- Expected to learn the Novolex Reliability approach and support the completion of detailed work orders, participate in RC analysis sessions, and understands role is about preventing problems and not fixing breakdowns (although this will certainly be needed).
What We Need From You
- High school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics or related field is preferred
- Proven experience as a Controls Engineering Technician with extensive experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of control systems and automation equipment; experience in X, Y, Z environments is preferred
- Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems, industrial communication protocols, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs); Specific experience with Allen Bradley or similar PLC controls is a must. Working knowledge of 110/220/440 single phase and 3 phase AC power, 12 V DC and 24 V DC power sources
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and control system architecture; ability to interpret, read, and create engineering drawings
- Familiarity with instrumentation, sensors, and control devices commonly used in manufacturing
- Conducts business as a professional and uses knowledge and skills in constructive manner to teach coach educate and prevent as needed.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to details
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency shifts, as needed
- Ability to travel domestically, as necessary
