Media and Training Intern

The American Postal Workers Union Health Plan (APWU HP) is a national preferred provider organization (PPO) that offers both a fee-for-service High Option plan and a Consumer Driven Option health plan. Both options are open to all employees or retirees covered under the Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program. Located in Glen Burnie, Maryland, the Health Plan is a department of the American Postal Workers Union. We employ over 200 people to service the 205,000 people covered by the Health Plan

Overview

The APWU Health Plan is interested in hiring a Media and Training Program Intern for the Winter 2023 term(with the potential of 2024 spring and 2024 summer semester work), working 20 hours per week remotely (occasional in-house work may be required). The intern will work closely with our Member Education and Training Department staff. The purpose of this position is to increase the Health Plan’s social media footprint and improve internal employee training presentations.  The intern will be responsible for helping to monitor and manage our social media accounts, post content, and brainstorm campaign ideas.  Additionally, assist with creating, editing and updating training materials.

Education, Experience, and Preferred Skills:

  • 2nd year associate’s level college student majoring in Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Instructional Design, Healthcare Administration, or Management Information Systems
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience monitoring and reporting analytics for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Able to work independently and take initiative
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, editing and professional email communication is required
  • Experience with creating social media posts
  • Copyediting and updating presentations/documents
  • Creating videos,   and online learning content, and content management Organization skillsand 
  • aAttention to detail

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strong understanding of our brand and organization to accurately share and represent through social media.
  • Monitor and manage the Health Plan’s social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Spearhead the creation of content optimized for each platform.
  • Brainstorm, produce, and monitor social media campaigns, utilizing campaign analytics to gauge impact.
  • Research the latest trends in social media and content marketing and digital advocacy
  • Assist with the development of internal staff surveys/communications
  • Assist with knowledgebase management
  • Update documents, edit screenshots, images, videos, and other training materials

Business Hours are Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, although actual work hours may vary based on availability and need.  Academic schedules will be accommodated.
