POSITION SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will support Amtrak’s Implementation Planning and Resource Coordination initiative in coordinating outages that support both capital and maintenance work, throughout the Amtrak system.  The intern will assist the Team in engaging stakeholders throughout the outage planning process, learn the end-to-end outage planning cycle, and assist in gathering lessons-learned to identify opportunities for improvement, while learning industry-related technical, organizational, and communication skills.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in coordination meetings and workshops with Amtrak management and subject matter experts in Engineering, Transportation, Major Program Delivery, and Strategy & Planning
  • Meet with the Implementation Planning Team to develop our future project list and provide early warning of potential conflicts.
  • Create materials (memos, presentations, meeting minutes) for Amtrak senior leadership that explain key concepts and proposed approaches and how they align with industry best practices.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or MBA degree with a focus in Engineering, Project Management, Planning, or a related discipline from an accredited institution within the last 3 years.
  • 6 months of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.
  • High initiative with the ability to multi-task and deliver results in a team and/or autonomous setting.
  • Proficiency with databases and search engines, Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong presentation skills, including written and oral and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport within all levels of the organization and communicate effectively with all levels.
  • Excellent communication and time-management skills,
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Project management and planning experience
  • Railroad, transportation, construction, and/or process engineering experience
  • Experience with Visio, AutoCAD, Bluebeam preferred

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
 

The hourly range is $28.00 per hour/ $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc.  In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
