Classification: Part-time seasonal employment
Dates of Employment: June 2024 through Labor Day w/occasional assistance outside this period
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 based on candidate experience
Reports to: SYC Commodore and Board of Directors
Job Description: Manage the waterfront facilities while providing a safe and fun experience for SYC membership, students, and employees. Weekends and evenings, Approx. 40 hours/week.
The Waterfront Director (WD) is responsible for the following:
- Management of the SYC Staff including daily responsibilities and training.
- Scheduling of staff for shifts including weekends and special events.
- Check and verify hours for staff and assist with payroll activities.
- Providing SYC members with friendly and courteous experience.
- Uphold the SYC Rules and Regulations.
- Ensure day-to-day safety and functionality of the waterfront.
- Complying with Farm Pond Rules and Regulations.
- Maintaining and repairing the SYC fleet, docks, floats, moorings, and shed.
- Facilitate and delegate tasks during downtime to ensure general upkeep of property.
- Ensure essential tasks are completed daily.
- Coordinating with the Instructional Sailing and Assistant Waterfront Directors.
- Keep the SYC Board of Directors informed weekly of developments or needs related to maintenance, safety, personnel, membership and environmental stewardship.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older by June 15, 2024
- Two years of sailing experience required, instructional experience preferred; comfortable rigging and operating sailboats independently.
- Current First Aid and Advanced CPR Certification; Red Cross Lifeguard Certification preferred.
- Previous staff management experience, experience with teenagers preferred.
- Excellent managerial and organizational skills; ability to multitask.
- Initiative to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and complete projects.
- Available on evenings and weekends during the season.
Other responsibilities
- Organize and coordinate activities on the SYC waterfront.
- Maintain and convey high expectations for safety, quality, effort, and member service.
- Manage Staff, including workload, repairs, and other duties.
- Provide a high level of customer service to SYC members, volunteers, town officials, and others.
- Attend all staff meetings, work with Commodore, Vice Commodore, Instructional and Administrator.
- Address issues with support staff.
- Assist with planning, organizing, set-up, teardown, and staffing of events throughout the season.
- Maintain current records of boat usage, user visits, major repairs needed, wind, weather, etc.
- Be familiar with offerings of the SYC (memberships, classes, and events) and be able to answer questions from members and non-members.
- Being a role model for inclusive behavior and fostering a positive group atmosphere.
- Utilize and update the Waterfront Director Dashboard before and during season.
- Submit weekly summaries through Dashboard of issues with members, students, equipment, and others.
- Complete end of season staff evaluations for hiring.
- Attend Waterfront Director trainings before the season starts.
- Plan and run Staff orientation and training including expectations, systems, procedures & skills.
- Attend SYC board of directors meetings, as necessary.
