Job Description:
The Communications Intern will play a vital role in promoting Global New Orleans and enhancing interest in international exchange. This position is designed to support the organization's mission by creating meaningful content and executing effective communication strategies. The Communications Intern’s primary responsibility will be to assist in various tasks, including drafting and editing internal and external communications materials such as press releases, newsletters, and social media posts. You will also support the team in conducting research, monitoring media coverage, and analyzing data from social media platforms to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies. Additionally, you will have the chance to contribute to the development of communication plans, participate in brainstorming sessions with the Global New Orleans team, and collaborate with local organizations. Our mission is to create cross-collaborations between New Orleans and the global community and our work highlights international connections, while also promoting New Orleans as an economic development hub, cultural mecca and much more. Key Responsibilities:
- Content Creation and Dissemination:
- Develop and distribute engaging content across various platforms, such as the organization's website, social media channels, email marketing, and newsletters.
- Compile and utilize information, stories, and photos related to international visitors and professional resources to build brand awareness for Global New Orleans and the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
- Design promotional materials for Global New Orleans events using platforms like Canva or similar tools.
- Digital Presence and Website Management:
- Update and maintain Global New Orleans website on Squarespace platform to ensure accurate and up-to-date information about programs, events, memberships, and donations.
- Social Media and Online Marketing:
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to enhance Global New Orleans social media presence on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Linkedin with potential expansion to other relevant platforms.
- Maintain a consistent and engaging social media schedule aligned with key audience interests.
- Content Packaging and Delivery:
- Assist with any additional communications and marketing needs that may arise in our dynamic work environment
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program in communications, marketing, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using digital platforms and tools for content creation and social media management.
- Familiarity with website management, preferably experience with Squarespace or similar platforms.
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members and external partners.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrated interest in international affairs, diplomacy, or cultural exchange is a plus.
- Familiarity with the New Orleans region, culture and social landscape a must!
- Approximately 5-10 hours weekly for each semester.
Note: This internship position is designed to provide hands-on experience and mentorship in communications and marketing within a non-profit organization. The selected intern will have the opportunity to contribute to the mission of Global New Orleans and gain valuable skills in various aspects of communications. The internship can last at a minimum of one semester and may be extended for one year.
