PASSHE Faculty Council GA Position

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) Faculty Council welcomes applications for one (1) Graduate Assistantship (GA) position. The Faculty Council engages in strategic conversations about issues that affect the State System and its universities in areas such as academics, budget and planning, and, ultimately, student success. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of the Faculty Council Chair/Faculty Liaison to the PASSHE Board of Governors. The individual will also work with the Faculty Council comprised of representatives from the Office of the Chancellor and faculty from 14 of the PASSHE campuses. The successful applicant must be accepted into a Graduate Program (Master or Doctoral) at any of the State System universities.
Qualifications: Applicants must already have a bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a State System university graduate program (Master or Doctoral). Preference will be given to applicants with career aspirations or research interests related to public higher education. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal); strong work ethic; ability and willingness to attend Faculty Council meetings (virtually); and proficiency with Microsoft applications is preferred. A well-rounded knowledge of current issues impacting public higher education, including those relevant to State System universities is preferred. The ideal applicant will have the ability to continue the Graduate Assistantship through May 2025.

Graduate students from all State System universities and campuses are encouraged to apply as supervision can be facilitated virtually. Applications will be accepted until November 1, 2023. The anticipated start date is the first day of Spring 2024 semester.
PASSHE Faculty Council Graduate Assistant Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support for PASSHE Faculty Council, including creating Doodle polls and developing meeting agendas;
- Write, research, compile and edit various Faculty Council documents, including meeting minutes and policy recommendations;
- Attend virtual meetings; some travel may be included in order to attend one in-person meeting in Fall 2024;
- Assist with advance preparation for all Faculty Council meetings;
- Responsible for updating Faculty Council membership roster following elections;
- Promote Faculty Council’s role in systemwide shared governance;
- Assist with research related to Faculty Council goals, including literature reviews, research design, data collection and analysis, and research dissemination;
- Contribute to publications and presentations as opportunities arise.
Compensation for this 5-hour per week Graduate Assistantship includes 3-credit graduate tuition reimbursement and stipend per semester in accordance with the State System university where the graduate student is enrolled. Acceptance to a State System university graduate program is mandatory before an offer for an assistantship can be offered.
