CDC Environmental Public Health Tracking Program Evaluation Fellowship

CDC Office and Location: This ORISE fellowship opportunity is currently available in the Division of Environmental Health Science and Practice (DEHSP) within the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. 

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the major operation components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC works to protect America from health, safety and security threats, both foreign and in the U.S. 

Research Project: The CDC Environmental Public Health Tracking Program is seeking an individual to be trained in evaluation activities to help support the program’s mission of providing health and environmental data, tools, and resources that drive actions to improve community health. The fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate and apply learned evaluation skills to address the recipients' activities and requirements, as well as the overall national program evaluation strategies.

Learning Objectives: The participant will receive training in evaluation, communications, education, and partnership building, while participating with a highly collaborative team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The participant should expect to gain skills and experience in a variety of areas, such as:

  • Monitoring and evaluating recipient activities and related progress reports.
  • Developing timely program evaluation one pagers and reports to highlight successes and lessons learned.
  • Providing follow-up for recipient environmental public health actions to identify long-term outcomes and impacts.
  • Collaborating with the national Evaluation Workgroup to provide technical assistance and related learning opportunities for recipients and partners.
  • Conducting an ongoing review of Tracking partners to consistently identify partnership needs and collaborative successes.
  • Participating in and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Expanding knowledge by attending trainings and webinars on evaluation, monitoring, and performance management (e.g., CDC's Evaluation Framework, logic model development, qualitative and quantitative data analysis and reporting).

Anticipated Appointment Start Date: September 1, 2023.  Start date is flexible and will depend on a variety of factors.

Appointment LengthThe appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of CDC and is contingent on the availability of funds.

Level of ParticipationThe appointment is full-time.

Participant StipendThe participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.

Citizenship RequirementsThis opportunity is available to U.S. citizens only.

ORISE InformationThis program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and CDC. Participants do not become employees of CDC, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.

The successful applicant(s) will be required to comply with Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) requirements of the hosting facility, including but not limited to, COVID-19 requirements (e.g. facial covering, physical distancing, testing, vaccination).

Qualifications

 

The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received a bachelor's or master's (preferred) degree in one of the relevant fields. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.

  • Training, education and direct experience in program evaluation.
